Jane McCutchen

Jane-headshotJane McCutchen is a photographer and licensed Reflexologist at Touching Soles Healing Arts.  “When I take a photograph it’s an expression of myself; an interpretation of the subject as well as myself.  My photographs, like my music, are for me; not to please someone else but to express something that speaks to me.”

A book that has been inspirational to Jane is Cancer As A Turning Point by Lawrence LeShan, Ph.D.   This book helped Jane to see how important our mind is when dealing with not just cancer but in all situations.  Another book Jane found helpful when her father was dying is Final Gifts by Maggie Callanan and Patricia Kelley.

Jane has a long history of cancer in her family:  Great aunt, two aunts, both grandfathers, mother, father, sister.  Jane’s father died of brain cancer.  Jane has seen the toll cancer takes not only on the body but the emotional and spiritual side.  Having a support team is critical and this is something all of us can do for each other – be a support team.

Jane grew up a Southern Belle from Alabama.  She has been taking photographs since she was young but became more serious in her thirties when on a mission trip to Italy.  She has taken photography classes in Alabama and Arizona and has worked for a professional photographer.  Her photographs are displayed in businesses and private residences throughout the U.S.

A longtime dream of Jane’s has been to put together a book of poems and photography. Not being a poet, Jane looked a long time for a poet who inspires her and whose poems blend well with her photographs.  She asked Dwight Cosper, a friend of over 40 years, if he was interested in writing the poems.  Dwight jumped at the opportunity.  They published Drifting in Beauty, A Collection of Poems and Photography in November 2011.  Their second book, Uncommon Thread, features photographs of Dwight’s mother’s and Jane’s father’s paintings.  It was published the summer of 2012.

Drifting in Beauty, A Collection of Poems and Photography by Dwight Cosper and Jane McCutchen is a collection of poems paired with photographs.  The combination of the two provide the reader with the opportunity to experience not just words but to have visual inspirations as well.  The process of putting this book together was a very personal journey for Dwight and Jane.

Uncommon Thread, A Collection of Poems and Photography by Dwight Cosper and Jane McCutchen is another collection of poems paired with photographs.  These photographs are of Dwight’s mother’s and Jane’s father’s paintings.  The book pays tribute to these talented artists and has become a keepsake for those who know the artists.  Dwight’s and Jane’s families have known each other for over 40 years so the bringing together of families in this book was a fulfilling accomplishment for both Dwight and Jane.
